ARTIFACTS

Tech Use Contract

6a and 6b

I created a contract for my second grade students to sign before they were able to use technology in my classroom independently. We went over the contract very explicitly in class. We went over each expectation and why it was on the contract. This discussion took several days to get through and had a very high level of importance. The students were given the contract and were required to share it with their parents and obtain their parent's signature as well. The contract was also written on a poster in our classroom and was visible at all times. The contract was a BIG deal to my students. They took it very seriously and did a great job with their use of technology in the classroom. My hope was that it would teach healthy, responsible habits which would hopefully influence their technology use outside the classroom.

Courage is... Video

6c and 6d

My students and I were required to present a skit or lesson that defined courage in front of the entire school. My kindergartners we terrified and could not imagine being in front of the entire school. We discussed and tried to problem solve. We wanted to still teach the building without having to be in front of them. During this discussion we agreed to make a video defining courage from a kindergartner's point of view. Each student drew a picture about what courage meant to them. I then videoed them reading their paper. We showed the building our video at an assembly and my kids were beyond proud of what they created. We had problem solved and created a creative expression of what courage meant to us.

(I did not get permission from all students in the video so I was only able to add the audio. Please try and visualize the kindergarten cuteness.)
