SAMR MODEL TWINE

1A

I created a twine presentation that explored the SAMR model. It explains what it is, how to use it, why it's used, and examples of lessons at each step of the model. I had my grade level team look at the model on a weekly basis during data team meetings. We would look at current or upcoming lessons and identify how technology was being used and how we could take it to the next level. It became a tool we often referred to when planning lessons. Over time it became a common part of our planning routine.

Social Media

1A and 1b

I participate on several social media sites to collaborate and learn from minds around the world. Social media allows educators and professionals from all over the world to share lessons, ideas, strategies and resources. I find myself most often participating on Pinterest with people I work with. Most often this is my grade level team. On Pinterest I can follow individuals or look for specific lessons. My colleagues and I have different boards for the different subject areas as well as technology lessons and implementation. We are constantly sharing and collaborating on our instructional practices. I also participate with my staff on Facebook. I use Facebook as a communication tool more than anything else. A social media platform that is surprisingly helpful is Twitter. There is a variety of resources and people that I find on Twitter that influence my instruction and implementation of the ISTE standards in my teaching. It is a simple way to stay relevant and 'in the know".

Media Literacy Essay

1c

In this essay I looked into current research that had been done on the topic of media literacy. I wanted to know what the current practice was and who should be responsible for teaching elementary school students about the importance of media literacy. I investigated and determined that media literacy should be taught by elementary school teachers. It should be a teacher's responsibility because no one else is taking on the task of media literacy.
